Two families embark on a canoe trip, where they follow several rivers and streams. During the journey, the children grow older as they pass the rivers' cultural history , myths and memories. The film is based on private family footage over 12 years, from river trips in Norway, Scandinavia and Europe, and historical documentation and objects are included through animations. In the latter part of the journey, the young adults are alone, and end the journey by setting up camp near a large industrial area.
